Notes

1These instruments (piccolo, bass trombone) do not often have parts available in wind band music. Because of this the student should also be proficient in the alternate instrument listed and be able to switch between these instruments from piece to piece as the music indicates.

2These instruments (Oboe, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon) take extra skill to master. We strongly encourage any student playing any of these instruments to be taking private lessons while involved in this band to ensure their success in the program.

3We are considering adding a string program in the future. If you or others you know are interested in such a program please let us know.

4Those interested in playing bass in our Jazz Band are encouraged to play Tuba in our band program or Upright Bass in one of the area string programs.

5Those with experience on Piano are encouraged to consider playing percussion. Percussion includes both 'non-tuned' instruments (various drums) as well as 'tuned percussion' (bells, xylophone, chimes, etc). Students with skills in piano can usually easily transition to percussion.

6The Soprano Saxophone is rarely used in normal wind bands. Students interested in playing Soprano Saxophone, which is only used in our Jazz Band, are encouraged to play one of the other saxophones or clarinet in the other bands.

This band is for students who have completed at least 2 years of concert band and/or equivalent playing ability.

An audition is required to participate in this band. Instrument playing ability equivalent to 3 years of regular band participation is expected.
